Aside from Radio presenting & numerous club appearances, DJ NG is known for his associations with two specialist club residencies: The weekly 'Factory After Party' est. 2009 at Club Life and now weekly at Club Covert (London UK) as well as the connoisseurs event, Peggys Party, Brixton (London). Alongside these two key residencies he plays monthly exclusively to Philosophy Club nights at Hidden, Vauxhall London & The Quarterly Breakout club at The Newcross Inn, SE. London.
DJ NG has been always been known for adapting his DJ styles to his varied crowds through his eclectic House/Dance music collection. Outside of the clubs, NG is known for a fresh London/Urban electronic dance style of production better known to him as URBANCE, which had provided him with opportunities to remix for many of the major record companies and artists: from Usher and Will I Am, Lilly Allen and Natty to name a few.
At the turn of 1999, DJ NG started on a small local S.E. London pirate station, 2G FM, 99.7 where he learned to develop basic presenting skills and understand the fundamentals of pirate radio. In September 2000, NG left London to pursue his interests in music, studying a BA Music & Business degree at Northampton University. It was here that he completed a 12,000 dissertation in UK Garage, analyzing the genre's history -starting from New York's influential club, 'Paradise Garage' (with its resident, Larry Levan) all the way into its developments into US garage, Then into UK/speed Garage the later into the hybrid sound of the UK genre, 'Grime'.
Whilst at University, NG was juggling between returning for weekend shows on 2G FM whilst presenting his own shows on a legal community radio station, Inspiration FM, based in the centre of Northampton. Graduating in 2004, NG returned to London and joined a major North London pirate at the time, Y2K FM, former Mission FM 90.6fm (This famous frequency most famous for helping spawn the careers of the likes of Miss Dynamite, The Heartless Crew, DJ EZ, The Dream Team + more).
It was during his last 3 years at Northampton, that he formed his own Promotions team with two good friends, which brought together some memorable and trending setting nights. These included, ‘The Official University Summer Send Off’, in 2003, 2004 & 2005 which featured the likes of DJ EZ (Kiss 100) & Kofi B, Sticky, Nathan (Come into my room) & more
In December 2004, the highly versatile DJ NG won the Midland's most reputable DJ competition @ The Empire super club (Milton Keynes). This achievement open doors for him with bookings from many of the UK's top Urban & Dance music promoters within the UK's top super clubs. Bookings include UK Garage's, ‘Sidewinder’ & 'Liberty' to London's underground house event, ‘Red Carpet’.
In September 2006, DJ NG was introduced to Geeneus at Rinse FM where he joined the Rinse FM team prsenting a sunday evening show straight after the likes of Spyro or rotated with DJ Slimzee. Rinse FM was going through a transitional period with the House music genre becoming prevelant on the station and was offered two other shows during the week, that of a tuesday 11am-1pm and a Thursday 11am-2pm.
'i remember when i first joined Rinse.FM & none of the regular listeners were into house and were solely calling up for Grime & Dubstep. It was quite off putting at first but i just done my thing and played a combination of what i liked and what was hot in the, what was then called, London underground 'funky house' scene. Even though i was getting sent a few UK productions, the term UK Funky didn't exist and were just calling it 'UK Funky house' or Deep/Tribal House'. DJ NG
Itt was the following year that the likes of Supa D joined Rinse, shortly followed by MA1, Alysebury Allstars (DJ IC, DJ Feva & Tippa), Kismet, Marcus Nasty & Angie B & Dogtaniuan completing the main Rinse FM house roster, most of which came from Deja Vu / Vu-live FM 92.3fm station. Also in this time, DJ Bossman, and influential Grime DJ from Essentials DJ'd under the alias DJ Perempay and like up with Grime producer Davinche to create Perempay's and Dee's 'in the air' giving RINSE FM by far, the most rated DJ roster for the fresh wave of London underground House scene.
Complimenting with NG's joining to Rinse FM in 2006 was the birth of his hit club 'Tell Me' when he was introduced to Baby Katy (now known as Katy B) back in autumn 2006. Through mutual friend MC Versatile, NG & Versatile devised a clever marketing strategy to raise the awareness of the (Reason 2.5 produced) floor filler.
URBANCE:
Devised in 2004 by DJ NG, the word 'URBANCE', in its simplistic form is a term used to describe a music style and club scene that is based on the fusion of primarily 'URB'AN & D'ANCE' music styles and culture. (House, Funky, Tech, Garage, Grime, Electro..)
NG has chosen to bracket himself not in a single music genre, but instead to develop the term ‘Urbance’ to wholly balance himself between all the music genres that he plays and appreciates.
"My tastes in music have always been varied both as a consumer and as a DJ, so there came a point as a DJ that I felt I had too many identities with all the different types of music I was playing. Thus, instead of using different aliases to suit each style/scene/crowd, I devised the term "Urbance" to categorise myself wholly, balancing myself between all the music genres that I play and the musical diversity." DJ NG
DJ'ING
With a variation of mixing skills from 'smooth blending' to dramatic 'cutting and chopping', DJ NG stands strong amongst the worlds many-other tasteful vinyl mixing specialists. As similar to his variations in mixing styles (dependent on the music he's playing, his audience and the mood that he wishes to set), DJ NG's record selections are just as broad from end to end.
At present, DJ NG’s clubs bookings are nationwide and he can be found touring up and down the country from anywhere from Brighton to Birmingham.
PRODUCER/REMIXER
Receiving monthly calls for major remix work, DJ NG has remixed for the likes of Sony/RCA, Atlantic Records and Ministry of Sound as well as established independents such as Domino records and has just recently completed Usher's forthcoming single “What’s your name” feat Will I Am.
