PEGGYS PARTY weekly
SUNDAY 24th March 12pm-6pm (daytime)
@ Peggys Brixton. London.
Its funny, that when as a young kid, oblivious to social circles, culture and fashion, i use to love this kind of music below - But then they came a point in my early teens when peer pressure took over and i started to follow close-by cultures (culture, or ways of doing things that what was perceived by those around me as the 'norm') & i started to follow the tastes of other kid friends i hung around with, in turn, disliking literally everything that was appealing to my fathers taste. - that would back then seem 'uncool'!! i suppose, this was my musical rebellious stage where i become a sheep over many of my teen years, getting sucked into making choices of selecting music around me based on soley what was offered/being listened to by friends, rather than looking into the endless sources and genres of music that were on offer from around the world and outside of my circle of friends. The point i wanted to highlight was that there came a point only recently, that as a DJ, something clicked. - a sense of maturity? a sense of finding myself and musically accepting ones self, and acknowledging the fact that i cant follow or be part of a single scene or genre? yes i can help a scene and play their music but for me to just play their one sound would be like eating the same food every day?!! - boring!! i always said that 'variety is the spice of my life' and i have recently concluded that i feel like a cameleon (is that the right spelling?) who adapts its exterior body colours to the environment its is around, absorbing everything it sees and feels, translating it into its state of change/adaptation/output. But to get to my point, i basically, feel that my mind has reverted back to my mind as a 6 year old kid who simply took and played music for what it was, regardless of the context or scene it should fit in. A lot of times, the dance-floor and crowed i am out before will not accept this music to dance to as they have been conditioned of their raving years by a particular sound and drum pattern that they can move to, anything that doesn't fit this movement or energy will seem unappealing - if you know what i mean.... so here's some posts of some music close to my heart that i dont get to play to my current dance floors - its a shame that i can only express myself/play these songs on here and maybe at Peggys Party but either way - i hope you guys enjoy the playlist :)
