Currently signed as a recording artist to 'Ministry of Sound', DJ NG is a pioneering figure both as a DJ and a Remixer/Producer. Born in South-West London, DJ NG was the first DJ from the UK House & Funky scene to sign a national record and album deal for MINISTRY OF SOUND with his club anthem “TELL ME” featuring Katy B & MC Versatile, in 2007. Many view this classic anthem, as one of the first pioneering tunes that helped shape the scene of the new, UK House n Funky genre, that has swept the clubs and radio stations nationwide.
DJ NG gained phenomenal success on the underground scene from the pirate stations and all the commercial stations with “Tell Me”. These included, Radio 1, Capital FM, Kiss, Rock FM, right through to Choice, Galaxy and BBC 1xtra. Aiding with this success, DJ NG has played across the country headlining in many super clubs/ promotions and supported the likes of many credible mainstream DJ’s and artists including, Tim Westwood, DJ EZ, N-Dubz, Shortee Blitz, Skepta, Footlose, Wiley and many more.
BACKGROUND:
At the turn of 1999, DJ NG started on a small but local S.E. London pirate station, 2G FM, 99.7 where he learned to develop basic presenting skills and understand the fundamentals of pirate radio. In September 2000, NG left London to pursue his interests in music studying a BA Music & Business degree at Northampton University. It was here that he completed a 12,000 dissertation in UK Garage, analysing its history -starting from New York's influential club, 'Paradise Garage' (with its resident, Larry Levan) all the way into its developments into the UK genre of 'Grime'.
Whilst at University, NG was juggling between returning for weekend shows on 2G whilst presenting his own shows on a legal community radio station, Inspiration FM, based in the centre of Northampton. Graduating in 2004, NG returned to London and joined a major London pirate at the time, Y2K FM, former Mission FM 90.6fm (This frequency most famous for helping spawn the careers of the likes of Miss Dynamite, The Heartless Crew, DJ EZ, The dream team + more).
It was during his last 3 years at Northampton, that he formed his own Promotions Company with two good friends, which brought together some memorable and record-breaking nights. These included, ‘The Official University Summer Send Off’, in 2003, 2004 & 2005.
In December 2004, the highly versatile DJ NG won the Midland's most reputable DJ competition @ The Empire super club (Milton Keynes). Since then, he has been booked by many of the UK's top Urban & Dance music promoters within the UK's top super clubs. Bookings include UK Garage's, ‘Sidewinder’, to London's underground house event, ‘Red Carpet’.
DJ NG’s, 9 years experience has seen him climb up through the many pirate stations to bring him to his current success, presenting shows on National radio stations. He now plays a cover show for DJ Footloose on BBC 1xtra having had guest shows and interviews previously on the likes of Choice FM & BBC 1xtra.
Currently, he remains a key presenter, pioneering the House & Funky scene on radio by hosting a weekly radio show on London’s biggest underground music station Rinse FM, 100.4FM. His show is broadcast and streamed live every Friday 5-7pm alongside MC Versatile.
URBANCE:
Devised in 2004 by DJ NG, the word 'URBANCE', in its simplistic form is a term used to describe a music style and club scene that is based on the fusion of primarily 'URB'AN & D'ANCE' music styles and culture. (House, Garage, Grime, Electro..)
NG has chosen to bracket himself not in a single music genre, but instead to develop the term ‘Urbance’ to wholly balance himself between all the music genres that he plays and appreciates.
"My tastes in music have always been varied both as a consumer and as a DJ, so there came a point as a DJ that I felt I had too many identities with all the different types of music I was playing. Thus, instead of using different aliases to suit each style/scene/crowd, I devised the term "Urbance" to categorise myself wholly, balancing myself between all the music genres that I play and the musical diversity." DJ'ING
With a variation of mixing skills from 'smooth blending' to dramatic 'cutting and chopping', DJ NG stands strong amongst the worlds many-other tasteful vinyl mixing specialists. As similar to his variations in mixing styles (dependent on the music he's playing, his audience and the mood that he wishes to set), DJ NG's record selections are just as broad from end to end.
At present, DJ NG’s clubs bookings are nationwide and he can be found touring up and down the country from anywhere from Brighton to Birmingham.
PRODUCER/REMIXER
Receiving monthly calls for major remix work, DJ NG has remixed for the likes of Sony/RCA, Atlantic Records and Ministry of Sound as well as established independents such as Domino records and has just recently completed Usher's forthcoming single “What’s your name” feat Will I Am.
